Before downhill skiing was the most popular form of the sport, the Hanover and Dartmouth community flocked to the hills just outside of town for cross-country and nordic-style skiing at the Oak Hill Outdoor Center. Today you can still ski these fields and trails. Enjoy complimentary rentals at Oak Hill Outdoor Center or sign up for lessons with one of their instructors. Oak Hill recently installed trail lighting for night skiing, allowing you more time on the trail than ever before!

Spend the day Ice skating at Occom Pond, Dartmouth’s ‘backyard’, for a classic New England experience. Run by the Dartmouth Outing Club, Occom Pond also features the Outing Club House, where you can curl up by a roaring fire with a cup of hot chocolate after an afternoon on the ice! Visitors are also welcome to ice skate on the historic Dartmouth Green! Each winter, Dartmouth College sets up a skating rink on the green, across the street from the Hanover Inn. Be sure to stop by PINE restaurant for a Hot Toddy afterwards

Skiing is in our DNA...

Dartmouth skiers helped pioneer the sport: they have participated in every Winter Olympics since the first games were held at Chamonix in 1924 and the college & town boasts more U.S. Ski Hall of Famers than any other location or institution in the country. In fact, The Hanover Inn even enjoys a small footnote in this local tradition: the legendary Ford Sayre Ski Academy began its life as The Hanover Inn Ski School, operated by Inn managers Ford & Peggy Sayre in the 1940s
